 □コンセプト

The Galapagos Islands are home to a remarkable diversity of species, supported by the region’s unique characteristic where

different environments—such as land and water—are continuously connected and transition seamlessly into one another. In ecology, such transitional zones are referred to as “ecotone.”

In this proposal, we reinterpret the concept of the ecotone architecturally, aiming to create spaces where nature and humans can coexist harmoniously. Each of the two buildings features an open atrium, named the “Ecotone Atrium,” which brings nature into

the heart of the architecture. By allowing natural elements to intersect with human spaces and visually connect them, we create an enriched, multi-layered spatial experience.

Terraces are distributed along the outer perimeter of the buildings, extending human activities outward and fostering an open relationship between people and nature. This approach blurs the boundary between interior and exterior, achieving a harmonious integration with nature while maintaining privacy.

Rather than dividing humans and nature, these ecotone-inspired spaces establish a continuous and interconnected environment that enables the coexistence of human activity and the delicate ecosystems of the Galapagos.
